The Myth of Being Humble

Over the past 15 years I had the pleasure of meeting a lot of smart and extraordinary successful people, some of which I know in person way before they became successful.

Some of them are humble about their success (or became humble after they got successful) and some still proudly talk about their success.

Unfortunately the status quo glorifies the humble and condemns the proud as arrogant. I have to say, I have always praised the second group much more, as I think they are more open and they are less self-centric. After all, they have earned their success and they deserve it.

However, I see it differently for the humble group. In my opinion, being humble when one is successful, rich or famous is very easy. So easy that it doesn’t need any glorification or praise. In fact, if you pay attention (especially compare the behavior before and after the success) there is a hidden shroud of ego-centrism behind that humbleness, a selfishness in being humble and it stems from the fact that they are proud to be humble, which in my opinion deserves more condemnation.

After all we are all humans and selfishness(with different degrees) is wired in our brain.
